Do you need a health coach?
To put it simply, no you don’t NEED a health coach, but you might WANT one. All the information you need to eat more vegetables, sleep better, create healthy habits, and meet your exercise goals is available to you by googling or on Pinterest. So, why work with a health coach? Sometimes, with all the information at our fingertips these days, it's hard to know where to start or how to stay on track.
Also, navigating through all the information can take a lot of time and it can be difficult to find the information that specifically caters to your unique goals and situation. It's a big responsibility for you to create a plan and take action steps to meet your goals. Additionally, holding yourself accountable alone can be challenging. So yes, it's possible to do it on your own, but it's time-consuming and potentially costly.
A health coach can help you take the information and align it with your goals by creating an efficient plan that leads to sustainable changes. We are all individuals with unique bodies, situations, and values. Consequently, even helpful information can be elevated when it is personalized and supported by coaching.
Therefore, you don't need a health coach, but having one will enhance and accelerate the process of achieving overall well-being and meeting your goals.
Why should you work with a health coach? Here are some benefits to working with a health coach…
Enhanced Knowledge and Expertise
Health coaches are trained professionals who possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of health and wellness. They can provide you with accurate and up-to-date information, guiding you towards making informed decisions about your well-being.
Personalized Approach
A health coach takes into account your unique goals, preferences, and lifestyle when designing a wellness plan for you. They understand that everyone is different and tailor their guidance to suit your individual needs, making it more effective and successful.
Accountability and Support
A health coach serves as your personal cheerleader, keeping you motivated and accountable for your actions. They provide constant support and encouragement, helping you overcome obstacles and stay on track towards achieving your health goals.
Sustainable Changes
Unlike quick-fix solutions, a health coach focuses on long-term results by making sustainable changes to your lifestyle. They emphasize gradual progress and provide guidance on creating healthy habits that can be maintained over time.
Holistic Approach
Health coaches take a holistic approach, considering all aspects of your well-being – physical, mental, and emotional. They address the root causes of any health issues you may be facing, helping you achieve overall wellness rather than simply treating symptoms.
Behavior Modification
Health coaches can assist you in identifying and modifying unhealthy behaviors that may be obstructing your progress. They work with you to develop strategies for overcoming obstacles and replacing negative habits with positive ones.
Working with a health coach can greatly enhance your journey towards improved health and well-being. Their guidance, expertise, and personalized approach can help you overcome challenges, make sustainable changes, and achieve a higher level of overall wellness.
Why did I become a Health Coach?
The short answer is because I needed one.
I strongly believe that having the guidance of a health coach would have greatly benefited me throughout various phases of my life. Even before graduating from high school, I had a deep interest in health and wellness. Reflecting back, I realize how much misleading information I had to sift through. Therefore, having the chance to work with a coach to align my goals, behaviors, lifestyle, and food preferences into a personalized plan would have been greatly valuable.
Even though I have found the healthy lifestyle I was seeking, it is still a journey and took years to get there.
If I would have worked with a health coach….
I probably wouldn’t have eaten only grilled cheese sandwiches, PB off the spoon and ramen in college
I would have realized inflammation’s role in skin and overall health
I would have had healthy mindfulness habits when anxiety snuck into my life in my early 30s
I would switched to non-toxic cleaning supplies and understood how chemicals in beauty products negatively impact our health
I would have found a more sustainable way to get movement into the day and not think exercise was the only way
I thoroughly enjoy learning about all aspects of health. It's what captures my attention in my news feed and what I save to refer back to later. So when I discovered the Institute of Integrative Nutrition's Health Coaching Program, I knew it was a perfect fit for me that could lead to other work opportunities.
Upon starting the health coaching program, they spoke about transformation and regardless of where we were in our health journey, transformation will occur which is why I encourage anyone to start where you’re at now. One aspect that made my training enjoyable was its unpredictability. For instance, one lesson would focus on the advantages of a plant-based diet, while the next would dive into the benefits of consuming meat. This provided an abundance of information and significantly enriched my understanding of holistic wellness.
Achieving good health is a continuous journey that requires active participation every day. It is not about a specific diet or running a certain number of miles. Learning essential tools and approaching this journey holistically can make reaching your goals more achievable and sustainable. By applying numerous aspects of my training to my personal health journey, I am enthusiastic about sharing what I have learned and offering helpful tips to others.
